Biofuel that is being sold in MA for home heating oil burners:
How is a consumer to know how many BTU per gallon a "blended" biofuel has in it? Is there an approved formula that oil dealers are supposed to be using? Does the state test any dealers suppiles?
I understand that one gallon of #2 fuel oil can produce approx. 140,000 BTU. Biofuel has less (dealers don't even know the BTU content). Biofuel costs more per gallon than #2 fuel oil. Biofuel is more costly.
Is it fair for a consumer to just trust that each dealer selling biofuel "blends" it properly?
Who decides what percentage and how it is to be blended?
I understand the need to reduce carbon emissions, and I do my part.
Any feed back to any of my questions would be greatly appreciated.
